Hi Folks,
Would you like to see your cubs learn to play games in a cooperative, sharing and leadership manner? If so - then Carleton Area has a set of games that you would be interested in using.
THINKFUN® GAMES
What is the ThinkFun® Game Kit? The ThinkFun® Game Kit is a night of program where players learn problem solving strategies and social skills while they are having fun playing ThinkFun® mind challenging games. It is designed for scouting youth and the sessions are organized into 3 steps.
We ran this program at our pack this weekend and the cubs were totally engrossed with learning and cooperating with each other in groups as they learned how to play these games.
We have two ThinkFun kits - one for beaver aged youth and one for Pack aged youth. We have had several packs try out this program and the feedback has been very good.
As an added bonus - this is a very simple program for you to put on - and if need be - myself or Heather Lee (Beaver service scouter) can come to your pack and help run the activity for you.
Heather Lee has provided the following program outline for you to read and consider.
PROGRAM OUTLINE
The meeting starts with an introduction:
Introduce the specific strategy and skill for the day, and get players ready to play games!
Play the Games:

Reflection Time:

Reflection topics.
A lively and fun way to end your meeting!
This program falls under many of the program standards and can be used by all scouting sections. The program addresses many skills and strategies such as perseverance, planning, collaborating, the process of elimination, team work, and patience to name a few.

RESERVATIONS
To make a reservation please contact
-->Scouter Heather at email beaverprogram@ carletonarea.ca
-->Scouter Paul at email scouterpyd@rogers.com
You should know when you want to pick up and drop off as this helps resource planning.
PICK UP AND DROP OFF
These resources will be located at the home of Scouter Heather. Please email with a time for pick up and drop off. You should endeavor to meet your planned pick up and drop off times in order to ensure that other groups are not impacted. Each game will be checked when returned so that a complete kit will be available for the next reservation.
REPLACEMENT PIECES
From time to time there will be pieces that get lost or broken. If you need replacement pieces they can be ordered. All the prices quoted in American dollars can be found on the website www.thinkfun.com but you will have to pay shipping if you go there. (orders over $200 have free shipping, but a single game will have a shipping charge.) Depending on the Canadian distributor, a local toy store may carry the game and you can get it from them
Replacement cost of pieces is minimal. Please specify game piece missing by the name of the game it came from, color and shape. The first replacement piece cost $2.50 and $0.50 per piece thereafter.
If you are looking for a guest to visit your section let Heather or I know. The kit is designed to be run by one of your leaders, but I would be willing to come in and visit your section and run the night for you if I am available.
